Science Meets Art: S-M-ART!

The SMArt Summer Program faculty includes an outstanding group of professionals who collaborate across disciplines to provide children with a unique view of the world. Some staff work throughout both sessions while others will be involved in a specific project during one session.

Jane Burke

Founder and Director of Flying Cloud, Jane has a BA in Chemistry, and a MAT in Science Education from Harvard, she has taught science, danced for over 50 years and been a potter for 34 years.

Larry Burke

College educator in film formerly at Columbia and now at Bard College at Simon’s Rock, Larry is a film maker and photographer.

Mari Andrejco

Actor and director, performs with the Thunder Bay Ensemble; she has worked with children through the Lincoln Center Outreach Program, Shakespeare & Co., and 16 years with us!

Cynthia Atwood

With an MFA in Visual Arts/Sculpture from Vermont College of Norwich University, a love to handle and transform materials, she considers teaching to be a privilege and direct link to her continuing development as an artist.

Meredyth Babcock

Co-director of Marmalade Productions, a Berkshire-based puppet company, she is a gifted artist, storyteller, and puppeteer.

Annabelle Coote

Works with students at Bard College at Simon’s Rock with a focus on the body/mind connection; joining movement, art and creativity to facilitate change and growth.

Thomas Coote

An adjunct faculty member in the Environmental Studies program at Bard College at Simon's Rock and director of the Berkshire Environmental Research Center. Areas of interest include political and aquatic ecology, and landscape genetics.

Diego Gutierrez

During his studies at Pratt Diego, an AIA architect, combined his love of art with his talent in science. He joins the faculty to initiate our explorations into architecture for children.

Susan Hardcastle

Susie has been a core FCI staff member for 20 years. She holds an MFA in painting from St. Martins School of Art in London.

Krista Kennedy

Trained at the Glasgow School of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago, Krista is an abstract painter/sculptor and teacher.

Dan Mead & Sally Eagle

Award winning digital photographers, the husband and wife team is committed to sharing their experience and knowledge with young people.

Rebecca Schrieber

Merging 25 years experience as a neuroscience researcher/educator, a focus on auditory/peripheral nervous systems from Harvard Medical School and the fine art of paper folding, Rebecca shares her passion for “science to art.”

Kristen Sparkhawk

Kristen brings her training in theater and movement from Bard College at Simon’s Rock and experience directing youth theater to inspire children to express themselves.

Jon Suters

Currently performs, composes, and does recording session work. Jon brings his vast musical experience into his teaching of music.

Tom Truss

Tom has an MFA in Choreography, danced with Liz Lerman, taught at Jacob's Pillow, and is now pursuing an MFA in Theater. He returns for his 13th summer.

Jeramy Vallianos

With a degree in Environmental Studies from Evergreen State College, he has worked on organic farms in the U.S and abroad and brings his knowledge of the outdoors to Flying Cloud.
