Classroom Enrichment
"started 1990"
Flying Cloud classroom enrichment ranges from intensive small group experiences to classroom and grade level project to whole school events. Many of these activities include artist and scientist residencies and interactive performances. Content areas include Robotics, Math, Sciences, Visual Arts, Performing Arts and Environmental Science. Students are exposed to unique inter-disciplinary, hands-on approaches to learning, for example a dancer helping chemistry students dance chemical reactions or students learning geometry by making Native American ceramics with an artist. This work reaches 2,000 students grades K - 10 in
school districts across Berkshire County. Staff development and curriculum development in robotics, environmental science, and math are currently underway. Southern Berkshire Regional School District has been the main focus of this work through the Creative Schools Program of the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Flying Cloud Institute partners with the District on this program and administers the grant activities.
