Classroom Enrichment
"started 1990"

Flying Cloud classroom enrichment ranges from intensive small group experiences to classroom and grade level projects. The goal is to excite children about creative thinking and problem solving in sciences and math.  These activities are referred to as SMArt as they include artists who connect abstract concepts in math and science to the visual and performing arts. Content areas include Robotics, Math, Sciences, Visual Arts, Performing Arts and Environmental Science. Students are exposed to unique inter-disciplinary, hands-on approaches to learning, for example a dancer helping chemistry students dance chemical reactions or students learning geometry by making Native American ceramics with an artist.photoThis work reaches 2,000 students grades K - 10 in school districts across Berkshire County. These classroom programs are often tied to staff development and curriculum development for teachers. While this work began at Southern Berkshire Regional School District these programs are now offerred in Berkshire Hills Regional Schools, Lee Public Schools, and Pittsfield Public Schools.
