Berkshire Environmental Educators Network
6th Annual Environmental Educators Conference
It was a mild winter’s day on January 14, 2010, as thirty school teachers and environmental education providers came together at Berkshire Community College for Berkshire Environmental Educator’s Network’s Annual Educator’s Conference. The participants enjoyed the intimate setting, where they had the opportunity to learn from and network with other educators in Berkshire County interested in environmental education. During the conference, participants enjoyed two workshops of their choice on topics including gardening, tracking, vermiculture (composting with worms) and invasive species. The conference goers really enjoyed the new format of the conference and felt they got a lot out of the workshops and networking opportunities. Participants also provided some great input to help plan the Youth Environmental Summit (YES), where students from upper elementary through high school have the opportunity to present the findings of their environmental research projects to their peers. The YES conference is scheduled for May 26, 2010 at Berkshire Community College. We received some great feedback from the conference participants and will use that to make the 7th Annual Educator’s Conference in November, 2010 the best conference yet!
This annual conference promotes better communication between non-profits specializing in the environment, and teachers who want to integrate environmental topics into their math and science curricula. It is a working conference where participants have the opportunity to share best practices, review available resources, improve links between practitioners, and plan the Youth Environmental Summit.
